2010 Boobyball Flash

Friday, October 22nd, 2010

When this year’s Boobyball committee anounced that the theme would be “Disco”, I knew I wanted to go Vintage. Actually, not true, I wanted to go Halston… hard… but i figured so did everyone else, and I didn’t want to risk showing up in that same Halston Heritage dress that Carrie so wore in SDTC 2… and wouldn’t you know it… Ainsley Kerr was rocking that dress way harder than I ever could have.

So of course, I left it to the absolute last minute of the last day and thought that since I lived within 500m of about a dozen vintage shops, I would have no problem finding a dress. Wrong. Apparently Disco is not the nouveau hipster cool look that most of the vintage shopsters are stocking their shelves with. I walked from the tip of Roncesvalles on west Queen west to the upper end of the Ossington strip at Dundas and finally found this shimmery two piece ensemble for a whopping twenty five dollars. yep. It almost makes up for how much I dropped on all those other dresses in my closet that have only been worn *cough*… once.

New Client: Harry Rosen

Monday, October 18th, 2010

We were recently brought on by Harry Rosen to cover the launch of the GANT by Michael Bastian line in Canada, celebrated by a media day and by-invite customer event.

There is often a preconceived notion that Harry Rosen is merely a “fancy suit and tie” place. But actually, they carry a range of more casual brands that appeal to a younger audience. Even more so than just casual brands, heritage brands are a real specialty of Harry Rosen. Where else can you find a tight selection of the newest Lacoste, Burberry, Fred Perry, and Canada Goose jackets all under one roof?

Classic, blue-chip brands are hot. Why? Maybe it’s all the advertising clutter of new brands looking to establish themselves that draws us to something known and permanent-feeling. I previously blogged about the phenomenon of the popularity of Canada Goose and other Canadian Heritage brands here.

So… GANT. It’s an Americana-style clothing line started in 1941. Harry Rosen buyers have had their eye on GANT for some time, and if they think there’s something interesting happening there (something which probably has a lot to do with one Michael Bastian, former men’s fashion director for Bergdorf Goodman), they’re probably right. The clothes look great.

Stylistically, we were inspired by for this video by Tod’s latest campaign video, a “brand essence” video that we recently reviewed for the Globe and Mail.

Hope you enjoy it.

It’s a tough job…

…but somebody’s got to do it. I would say It’s more of a passion than an obligation. Frolicking in Trinity Bellwoods park on a beautiful, sunny September day, greasing down beefcakes, and making sure the light hits their pecks just right, all to raise awareness for Paws For The Cause; a gala fundraiser and fashion show to benefit the OSPCA. I know. Monuments should be erected in our honour.

We were lucky enough to be brought on by the Paws For The Cause team to produce this cheeky one minute video which features a bevy of Toronto’s taste makers and risk takers. From a money shot, to a fence monkey in heat, all our stars pulled out all the stops for this noble cause.
